Storage Tips – When you move your possessions into a self storage unit, it is important to take some precautions to be sure your items remain safe.
Here are a few simple things you can do.

  • Make a list of the items stored. You may even want to photograph or make a video recording of your things. Include identifying information when possible.
  • Keep this list, photographs, and/or video in a safe place, but not in your storage unit.
  • Number each box, and keep a separate inventory of each item contained in each box.
  • When possible, store all items (especially boxes and furniture) up off the floor.
  • Do not store items right next to the door rails. Most doors are not completely water tight and rain (especially with wind) may come in around the door edges.

  • Put dust covers on furniture.
  • Wrap all glass and breakable items in plastic bubble wrap and cover them with shipping blankets for added protection.
  • Put the expensive items inside the unit first and store large, heavy items in the front.
  • Make sure you have renters insurance, so that your items will be covered in case of any loss.
